Tenser, tenser said the Hensher

"What if Margaret Thatcher had not fought and won the general election in 1979? What would the 80s have been like without the Falklands war, the miners' strike and privatisation? Novelist Philip Hensher imagines a decade of nationalisation, nuclear disarmament and state-run pubs"

"Perhaps we would be waiting six months for a mobile telephone, and paying the bills to the post office, headed by the Postmaster General – I don't believe it would be a very advanced telephone, either. Perhaps there would be three TV channels and the requirement for a licence before you could use the internet."

Blimey, didn't know Hensher was that irksome. Reminds me Anthony Burgess 'oh ones teh unions and teh muslims' 1985, and how gleefully it was summarised by the Daily Mail.
