For some reason TVS decided to have a slightly different schedule from most ITV regions, with local news starting at 5:30, split by the ITN news at 5:45, so to fill in the 15 minutes from 5:15 they had this. Needless to say everything is done as interior scenes with most sets not having windows as they are / were difficult to light. It is not 100% clear to me that the sets are real sets rather than using actual bits of the TVS studios, one of the tricks of TV stations is to do dramas set in TV stations so they can use their offices etc. as sets.
The end credits have the continuity announcer saying it will be back later in the year, which it wasn't. One of the few plot points I remember was that the overnight DJ's girlfriend phoned him up saying she'd taken an overdose of contraceptive pill, obviously that episode was quite near the end as the final episode was clearly set on the same night.
Having a soap opera on for 15 minutes at 5:15 never really made any sense. The thing that strikes me from a modern perspective is how 'wordy' it is, and how posh many of the accents are.
Dear dead days. Or something.
