Last Greyhound Track in the Northwest Closes!

(from an email from GREY2KUSA - for some reason they don't actually have the news story on the front of the website)

"Citing competitive pressures, Multnomah Greyhound Park (MGP) has announced today that it is closing! MGP was the last stronghold of greyhound racing in the Pacific Northwest and has been struggling to survive for several years.

"This news is the best holiday present the greyhounds could ever receive!

"Best yet, Magna has pledged to find homes for all remaining greyhounds at MGP. The adoption kennel of the Oregon Greyhound Association will remain open until all the dogs are placed. Please call 503-669-2129 if you would like to bring home one of these dogs. "

Ironically, Oregon had the highest standard legal protection for the greyhounds of any state, though there were news stories about cruelty a couple of years ago. Though, perhaps when you think about it, it isn't surprising that the first place to find it uneconomic is the place with the highest standards.
