I have changed my mind about the buying the first series of The Mary Tyler Moore Show being an alcohol-fueled knowing-the-credit-card-number-off-by-heart including-the-expiry-date-and-security-code mistake. It is actually remarkably funny and not very dated despite being made in 1970, even when watched at single speed with sound rather than double speed with just subtitles.
There is also a fine documentary on the DVD which I will be drawing on for the syllabus of my course in 'contemporary television'.
When I write my sitcom I will be attempting to get Channel 4 to use the Mary Tyler Moore Show theme reinterpreted by Me First And The Gimme Gimmes for the theme music. I haven't decided what the heroine should do instead of throwing her hat in the air, possibly put a car windscreen through with a bike lock :-) Much more noughies, I feel.
