No, I still haven't gone out and got a life

Like ortho_bob (can't find the post, sorry) it seems somehow perverse to me the way the fanfic people enmeshed in the current LJ drama (if you don't know what you probably don't want to, count yourself lucky, serves me right for looking at my fflst) have appropriated the term 'fandom'. To me, 'fandom' means SF fandom as in Worldcons, Eastercons, propeller beanies, corflu, small boys E. E. Doc Smiths for goalposts, isn't it? Just as only the UK has stamps without the country on, only 'the' fandom does not require some sort of qualifier.
Talking of which, here is a link with the pictures (probably pointed out by pmcray) of UK SF fandom back in the days when everyone (more or less) wore shirts and ties to Eastercons http://efanzines.com/PW/Stars/
