Another partial success...

We have a live PC again, thanks to putting the hard disk from my dead PC into t__m__i's PC. Remarkably, it recognised almost everything first time through. Once I installed the things it asked for it blue-screened but this was dealt with by the Windows 2000 recovery console. The display is currently a rather lame 16 colours 800*600 but that will do for now as we are going on holiday for a few days at the end of the week and therefore the next round of Weasel vs. Technology can wait until we are back.

Talking of technology, I bought the O'Reilly book Beyond Java from Blackwells. It is about current trends in programming languages really, although it does make me feel immensely glad that I am not and have never been a Java developer. It does, however, seem to have been written in a bizarre parallel world where Java has been a great success but is now showing its age rather than the world I inhabit where it never really caught on.
