Was surprised
... that there was a political headline on the news on 5 Live, I thought that convention was that they said 'there are elections taking place today with the polls closing at x p.m. and now a story about bunnies'.
Still, they were talking about football on the 'breakfast phone-in' (otherwise known as we have saved money by removing the lunchtime news and added an hour of wittering), this confirming the theory that football exists to give men something to talk about apart from politics.

I was thrilled to see the political gossip column in our local rag mainly engaged by grammatical infelicities in election material from the various local parties, including mine ... I used to edit and proofread for them until they stopped asking. I am so not saying 'I told you so', but you bet I'm thinking it.

I have kept very quiet about our leaflets / newsletters for the obvious reason (and if I wanted more irk in my life anyway I could always start with my employer's website).

I couldn't keep my mouth shut, unfortunately, and spent several heroic years fighting a losing battle about the differences between en rules and hyphens, all the while being assured that PagePlus has no en rule anyway. Which I felt sure was bollocks, but as I didn't use it myself at the time felt hardly qualified to comment when I was speaking to trained users. So I tried to teach them my wizard wheeze about resizing a hyphen. They liked that, but not enough to use it.

I now use PP for other things. Pressed a button accidentally the other week while making a document and lookee, the en rule, and its close companion, the em rule, both lurking, logically, under Symbols.

I'd shoot myself but I feel sure I could the hypothetical bullet to a more artistic use elsewhere.
